I was the first undergraduate at UNI to compete against professional artists for and win a major public art project, which is still located at the Bettendorf Learning Campus. UNI Graduate MA: fellowship, MA in studio art. Clemson University Graduate: MFA in visual art. At Clemson, I was chosen to be one of 20 artists from SC to exhibit in the South Carolina Biennial. I was awarded the Outstanding Graduate Student in Art award. Northern State University 2005-2009: assistant professor of art education and sculpture. Over the course of four years, I was able to build my practice and earned many public art commissions around the country. This growing studio practice encouraged me to leave teaching in 2009 to pursue art-making full-time. Independent Artist 2009-2012, I created smaller-scale sculptures, art furniture, and large-scale public art. Oskaloosa 2012-present: I have worked to build a more artistic and open community in Oskaloosa. In 2012, We founded the Oskaloosa Art Center and Studios. I have worked with our board members to grow into a new space and offer more artistic venues and programs, including the Oskaloosa Sculpture Workshop, the Oskaloosa Sculpture Tour, and the Oskaloosa Mural project. The Oskaloosa Art Center and Sculpture Workshop offers art classes to individuals of all ages, and performance opportunities and concerts. We have a fully equipped metal sculpting studio offering classes to the community and residencies to teaching artists. My sculptural work in Iowa can be seen in the East Village of Des Moines, with “spotted dog”, and in Marion’s Artway with “Drawing Room”, and at the Bettendorf Public Library with “Passage”. I have been engaged in creating and completing 4 murals in and around Oskaloosa.
